The idea of collecting and distributing prom dresses free to high school girls was given birth in April, 2005 by five close friends while on a fun trip to Chicago. They named it Fairy Goodmothers. Upon returning home to Dublin, Ohio, they enlisted additional friends and soon after, the first board meeting was held. Fairy Goodmothers became a reality.
Basing our charity on a similar organization in Illinois, within three months we had a working board, by-laws, Mission Statement, finances in order and fund-raiser planned. Within six months, we had obtained the neccessary 501(C)(3) status from the IRS to permit donations to Fairy Goodmothers, received our first financial grant and had preparations in order for the first dress give-away event (Cinderella's Closet Boutique).
Everyone involved in the dress give-away, whether it be a board member or volunteer, feels honored to be part of this wonderful organization. The friendships made and smiles of dress recipients make each hour dedicated to Fairy Goodmothers more than worthwhile.
FAIRY GOODMOTHERS is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting confidence and self-esteem in high school young women by providing them formal dresses at no cost. Donations of quality new and gently-used formal gowns enable these high school students to attend proms, thus allowing them the opportunity to establish memories and promote social development during this important milestone in a young girl’s life.
